Moving to the ACC we get two defensive juggernauts who specialize with in your face defense and force bad shots. A nice little rivalry on this Wednesday as Virginia Tech (8-6) visits Virginia (9-6) at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.
A key piece to this Virginia Tech program is veteran player Storm Murphy who comes over from Wofford last year. The addition of his ability to control the game and not turnover the ball along with Keve Aluma improving this year have really helped this Hokie team get some good looks on offense. They are not flashy just like their opponent, but they can stroke the ball from 3 as they average 8.6 3's per game and hit at a rate of 38.8% which puts them at a tie for 18th in the nation. On the other end, Virginia's staple for years has been their defense where they love to put pressure on the perimeter. This may cause some issues with the Hokies getting good looks, but I trust in the veteran presence to get to the bucket and get the foul calls if the 3's are not there tonight.
The Cavaliers will look to defend the perimeter as their priority tonight and focus on defensive rebounds. Virginia was able to control the boards against Clemson which gave them their 75-65 win back on the 4th, but the story was a lot different days later when they took on the Tar Heels and lost focus of their game plan.
Over the past few years, Virginia has won 4 out of the last 5 meetings with their defense. This year, the defense is struggling and I fully expect the Hokies to take advantage of that and get the win outright here today.
Currently the odds sit at Virginia -1.5 (-110) O/U 117. This is a super low total which is asking for you to take the over. However, I believe Virginia Tech will be the aggressor this time and keep Virginia from getting anything going.
Virginia Tech +1.5 (-110)
