With only two games left on the conference schedule, we head to the Southern conference where get two teams going head to head that may look to be a shootout. The Citadel (11-16, 5-11) head to Hawkins Arena to take on Mercer (15-14, 8-8) in a rematch from back in January.

Not typically the type of matchup that we go for here, but it is one where we will get the most value. There are always a few hidden gems in these lower level conferences, and we believe we have found one here today with this game. The Citadel are coming off of a tough road loss from Monday at Samford where they let one slip away. One thing about this team however, is that they will remain competitive till the end of the season, and what we love about these conferences with these not so popular colleges, is that any team can win on any given night. Both of these teams love to light it up from behind the arc as The Citadel and Mercer rank 6th and 79th in the nation in 3 point field goal attempts, respectively. Last time these two met, both teams shot from the 3 over 22 times while the Citadel only converted 21% which is well below their season average of 35.6%. Don't expect for that type of 3 point shooting to happen again as the Citadel have improved in that category as of late as they have converted 39% from 3 over their last 4 games. One large issue that I expect them to have corrected for this revenge spot tonight is their free throw shooting. Head Coach Duggar Baucom said after their loss to Samford,
“As hard as we work at scouting and preparing, and as hard as the guys practice and go out in the game and battle, it comes down to success on the simplest shot, 15 feet away, 10 feet high.”
Expect for the Citadel to work on the free throw shooting on their off days and have that a little more ready to go for this matchup against the Bears. Mercer is coming off of a disappointing loss against Western Carolina, so I do expect them to be ready to go this game back at home. With where the current line is however, we anticipate this to be more of a back and fourth shoot out and close game at the end.
Currently the odds sit at Mercer -7 (-113). Again, this may just be a few too many points as I expect Citadel to get their shooting woes corrected and catch Mercer in a down spot as they look ahead to their final game at Wofford.
The Citadel +7 (-103) - 1 unit
