St Joe's @ VCU 1/22/22 (NCAAB)

Two teams from the A10 meet on this Saturday for what will be an interesting battle. St Joe's (8-8) head on the road to VCU (10-6) to take on the Rams at Stuart Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia.

As mentioned in a previous post, this St Joe's team is not the same team from years past. They have picked up the pace tremendously this year along with adding scoring and rebounding. They rank 80th in the nation in rebounding compared to their opponent which rank 326th in the nation in that category. The Hawks game plan here will be to slow the pace, shoot from the 3 when open, then move the ball inside to big man Ejike Obinna who will get them scoring in the paint. VCU, however does rank 5th in the nation defensively, so I expect their experience to crowd the Hawks on the perimeter and force bad shots. VCU also prefers to run a slow pace which they will be content with doing this game and keep their main focus on the defensive side. The Rams force 9.1 steals per game which is good for 25th in the nation. What we should see this game is pressure from the Rams, bad shots by the Hawks, and not many second chance points for the Rams. All signs point to a total which we love for this game especially with the public on the other side.

These two teams have previously had large totals to reach in their past 4 head to head matchups with each line closing at least over 141.5 and each time going under that total. VCU has been able to control this St Joe's team, and I expect them to do the same thing today with the experience they possess. Add that to the fact they have been struggling recently to get their offense moving unless they are playing the bottom feeders in the conference which is not the case today.

Currently the odds sit at VCU -12 (-110) O/U 134. This line has moved in VCU's favor from the 11.5 opener as well as moved down from 135. There is still plenty of value here with the under as I have this as more of a 68 - 61 type of game. The only issue with not taking the side is the poor free throw shooting from both teams.
