San Diego St. @ Wyoming (NCAAB) 2/28/22

Heading into the surprisingly competitive Mountain West conference, we get two solid teams that are looking to strengthen their chances for a bid into the big dance come March. San Diego St. (18-7, 10-4) heads to Arena-Auditorium to take on Wyoming (23-5, 12-3) which has proven to be a tough place to play for all opponents this year.

A huge test here for both teams as they meet for the first time this season after their earlier meeting got postponed. Wyoming has not faced this type of defense all season with Boise State being the closest. Wyoming, also, has won ALL home games this season which is a remarkable achievement considering the competition of play in the conference has stepped up this year as well. Wyoming runs a slow paced methodical type of game as they move the ball efficiently and only turn it over 10.9 times per game which is good for 39th in the nation. This team shoots extremely well, however with this pressing defense that the Aztecs will throw at them, I expect a little bit of a struggle here. SDSU on the other hand runs an extremely slow pace as well as they rank 310th in the nation in tempo, that is because their main staple is their defense where they rank 1st in the nation. That is correct, FIRST. This defense has no issue traveling as well as they have only allowed 56 points per game over their last 9 games which include 5 at home and 4 away. A good mix of games here where the Aztecs, since their embarrassing loss at Utah State, they have completely buckled down on what they do best (defense) and made that their main focus for each game. Wyoming bolsters a decent defense where they rank 103rd in that category which should do enough to also keep SDSU in check. Expect this game to be a hard fought defensive battle on both ends as Wyoming looks to get their big man Graham Ike involved in the paint early and often while straying away from the 3 point shot tonight as SDSU defends the 3 well as they have only allowed an average of 25.6% 3 point shooting over their last 5 games. Fishy line here today keeps us off either side but will allow us to play a particularly high total for what SDSU is used to.

Currently the odds sit at SDSU -1.5 (-108) O/U 129.5. This total has gone up 2.5 points from the opener of 127 which allows us now to buy back on the high total. 88% of the bets are on Wyoming to cover as they expect another him win here to keep them perfect on the season.
