One of the most up tempo and fun conferences to watch in college football is also a fun conference in basketball as well. We head to the MAC where we Northern Illinois (5-10) making its way to Convocation Center to take on Ohio (14-3) which is sure to be a delight.
The Huskies with their less than impressive record seem to take on a different form now that conference play is in the swing of things. Since beginning conference play, they have picked up the pace significantly and not afraid to run with up tempo teams since they can not rely on their defense. One thing they do well is shoot the 3 at 36.1% while the Bobcats are not afraid to let it fly from the 3 as they average 8.6 3 point attempts per game. Neither team rebounds particularly well which can allow for easy second chance opportunities as well as a lot of transition buckets. Another big factor to this game is that NIU loves to foul and averages 21.6 fouls per game over their 5 contests against MAC opponents, all while Ohio shoots 76.3% from the free throw line. Each team defensively is not anything to write home about as the Huskies rank 261st in defensive rating, and the Bobcats rank 147th. This game we should see sloppy defense along with a lot of open shots from the perimeter and cuts to the basket for some easy lay ins.
Currently the odds sit at Ohio -18.5 (-110) O/U 135.5. This total has moved down from the opener by one point and is showing 72% of the action on the under. This is the opportunity to buy back in the opposite direction in which I believe we get more of a 81 - 65 type of game here.
