Jacksonville State looks to begin their conference tournament run tonight as they take on Kennesaw State who has shown flashes of great offense at times. Both teams do not particularly run an up tempo offense, nor do they run a slow pace, but what makes all their scoring is their field goal percentage and 3 point shooting. Kennesaw State shoots 46.5% from the field (56th in the nation) while Jacksonville State shoots 47.3% (36th in the nation) which is rather impressive for both squads. They are both not afraid to fire away from 3 either as Kennesaw State converts 36.3% (61st in the nation) and Jacksonville State hits a whopping 39.3% (2nd in the nation). We are getting two very efficient offensive teams that move the ball extremely well by bother averaging near the top 80 in the nation in the assists which helps them both create easier shot looks. Defensively, both teams are not great, nor are they bad, but they do not show any signs of stopping a high powered offense when it gets moving. I expect this game to be a lot tighter than the line suggests, and with free throw shooting being poor on both ends for these teams, they will look to get shots up early and often and focus on shots around the perimeter rather than forcing it inside hoping to get a call and get to the line. In 8 of their last 9 games, the Owls have gone over today's posted total with the only time not eclipsing that against the 25th rated defense in the nation in Jacksonville. With the Gamecocks shooting efficiency coupled with the pace that Kennesaw State has run of late, this is the perfect recipe for an over type of game.

Odds

Currently the odds are Jacksonville St. -8 (-110) O/U 138.5. This total has come down since the opener of 140, in which I believe is still a little too low. The opportunity for buy back is now as we will get the best of the number on the other side.
