(18)Marquette @ (24)Connecticut 2/8/22 (NCAAB)

A great Big East matchup as we get Marquette (16-7) heading to XL Center to take on UConn (15-6). Both teams who are destined to make a splash in the NCAA tournament are going to go head to head in what should be a scoring battle.

Marquette heads into this game with 9 straight covers ATS while UConn has failed to cover their last 3 games. Marquette has been a surprise this season with their young talent but they have been able to put it together and build chemistry with the help of experienced coach Shaka Smart. When these two teams played back in December, the Huskies won 78 - 70 in a pretty evenly matched game. One thing UConn will be missing from that game to this game is big man Akok Akok who tallied 6 points and grabbed 6 boards that game. Marquette has improved their shooting up to 45.3% compared to UConn's 43.7% from the field. Marquette has fallen in love with the 3 as they shoot 8.7 per game and average just a bit over 35% from behind the arc. Both teams shoot well from the free throw line as they both hit over 73% in that category. UConn outrebounds Marquette however by 37.9 per game to 32.5 respectively. Again, the Huskies will lose some rebounding without Akok. On the offensive side of the ball Marquette loves to move it around and get all their players involved as the Golden Eagles average 17 assists per game compared to UConn's 14.7. Marquette will look to make rebounding a priority and attack the glass as they try to limit Sanogo's rebounding for the Huskies. Defensively, both teams rank in the top 76 in the country and can cause issues to opposing teams. There is a common misconception that regression is coming when a team is on a cover streak, however, that is not the case. As that may be true for teams when it comes to wins and losses, the market does not always catch up to teams that are great at covering and often times those teams continue to cover at a high percentage.

Currently the opening odds are UConn -7 (-110) O/U 141.5. Money has already come in on UConn and I expect buy back on this number for the Marquette side.

Marquette +7 (-110) - 1 unit
